BATTLE OF SHREWSBURY - MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL

Saturday July 26th & Sunday July 27th from 10am to 4pm (Farm Shop & Café open from 9.30am until 5.30pm as usual on Saturday 26th)

Once again we will be hosting this historical event.

The Battle of Shrewsbury was fought between King Henry IV and a rebellious faction led by the Percy family in 1403, and it was the first time the English longbow was used on both sides of the battlefield.

Over the anniversary weekend of the Battle of Shrewsbury, visitors will head back to the medieval period with the battlefield coming back to life.

During this family day out, there will be the chance to see knights in armour and archers preparing for battle. There will be living history, including traditional crafts and cookery, with a variety of activities to try your hand at throughout the day. This will include national and regional living history groups along with many specialists on a huge range of areas.

At the end of each day, spectators will be able to take sides and cheer on their favoured army, as part of the battle is re-enacted on the original battlefield.

The Great Railway Journeys with Michael Portillo

This season featured a special segment that we were thrilled to be a part of, showcasing the historic Battle of Shrewsbury. The episode can be viewed on BBC iPlayer here

We had the pleasure of recruiting a team of individuals to assist Michael in travelling back in time and immersing himself in Medieval warfare!

Dorothy Nicolle (a local Battle of Shrewsbury historian) was instrumental in the days activities as were The Corbet Household & M H Howarth, all of whom will be attending the festival

A fascinating day was had by all, and it was truly a privilege to work with such a down to earth, skilled filming crew.
